Time flies when you're wrestling
.
Dec. 6--Wow, time has flown by and it has been a while since I have written. A lot has happened since I last wrote. I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving and hopefully a successful firearms hunting season. Since I last wrote, we wrestled UW Platteville here at home on Thursday, November 29th. The good news is that we didn’t lose to them like we did a year ago! We won the dual meet “La Crosse” style with a score of 42-9. The big match of the night was at 149lbs. where Matt Mauseth pinned a very tough individual from Platteville. Overall, the meet went as expected. We did a great job pinning (3 pins) but of coarse, we are still climbing those stairs to the top of the mountain. We need to continue to get better and crisper as the year goes on. Two days later, we hosted the UWL 2x4 Dual Tournament. Teams included St. John’s University, Cornell College, Loras College, and Winona State University. We wrestled pretty well the whole weekend. Cornell is ranked 10th and we beat them by a score of 31-13. Throughout the whole weekend, there were several matches that were going to be “key” matches to set the tone for the rest of the year. These matches will help us in the future with seeding. Josh Zabel, 184, beat the #3 ranked individual in convincing fashion. That is a big win and should help us out in the future. There were also other matches that were “key” for us. Practice has been tough in the last couple weeks. We are really working on being mentally tough and being able to go as hard as we can for seven minutes. Sometimes, the match just comes down to fighting the hardest and being mentally tougher than our opponent. We also have been working on specific flaws for each person and making these flaws or mistakes our strengths. We have also been working on transferring what we do in the practice room to competition. This is a big week for us. We are practicing hard and training smart. This Friday, we host #5 Luther College @ Mitchell Hall—7pm. Before the meet, Coach Dave Malecek will honoring all the past national champions, it is going to be great to have all those guys around for this big meet. I can’t wait! Hope to see you there! Yours in wrestling, JOSH CHELF
