Dec. 26 -- Five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) institutions are ranked in the top 25 of the 2007-08 United States Sports Academy Directors’ Cup NCAA Division III fall standings.
UW-Whitewater leads the conference quintet, placing 10th with 215 points. UW-Eau Claire is 16th with 169 points, followed by UW-La Crosse in 23rd with 138 points and UW-Platteville and UW-Stevens Point tied for 25th with 136 points. UW-Oshkosh also earned a spot in the rankings, placing 39th with 114 points.
The standings recognize the best NCAA Division III overall athletics programs in the country and are based upon the completion of women and men's cross country, women’s field hockey, football, women and men's soccer and women's volleyball.
Washington University (Mo.) leads the rankings after compiling 322 points. The Bears are followed by Amherst College (Mass.) with 291 points, Williams College (Mass.) with 286 points, Calvin College (Mich.) with 285 points and The College of New Jersey with 254 points.
The WIAC has placed at least two institutions in the top 10 of the final U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup NCAA Division III standings in nine of the last 11 years.
