The most unfortunate thing that occurs each year is the passing of others. Though nothing could be more a part of the natural landscape, the end of every year (rightfully) draws attention to those we lost in the previous 12 months.
Aside from family, friends and loved ones, 2007 saw the departure of many interesting people who contributed to the world stage in one form or another. Many of these individuals were little known despite the wide familiarity with what they left behind.
Take, for instance, Robert Adler. Hardly a household name, Adler was the man responsible for developing the technology that revolutionized the television remote control, a device used by people the world over each and every day. Or Josef Engressia, the man who developed the “tone system” by which the telephone was able to shed its clumsy dial and enter the push-button era.
Others who left us in 2007 were better known; some, like Anna Nicole Smith, were simply famous for being famous; others, like Watergate coordinator E. Howard Hunt, will be remembered for more infamous accomplishments.
