April 3--From UW-L sports information today:
UW-La Crosse moved from 23rd to sixth in the Sports Academy Directors' Cup NCAA Division III standings following the winter season.
The Eagles won a national championship in men's indoor track and field, the wrestling team placed second, the women's track team tied for fourth and the women's swimming and diving team took 13th.
Points were not awarded for the gymnastics team's national title, since it is affiliated with the NCGA.
The Eagles have 468.50 points while Washington University, Mo. is first with 693.50 points.
Amherst College, Mass. is second (647.00) followed by Williams College, Mass. (617.25), The College of New Jersey (516.00) and Middlebury College, Vt. (508.50) to round out the top-five.
UW-Whitewater is eighth (442.00) while UW-Stevens Point is 11th (399.50), UW-Eau Claire 15th (351.00), UW-Platteville 20th (314.50) and UW-Oshkosh 23rd (308.00).
UW-L, which has eight top-10 finishes in the 12 years of the Directors’ Cup program, was a school-best seventh in 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2006-07.
UW-L is one of six institutions in NCAA Division III history to finish in the top-20 all 12 years joining Williams College (Mass.), The College of New Jersey, Amherst College (Mass.), Middlebury College (Vt.) and Cortland State (N.Y.).
