It won’t be Hillary in 2008. But Mrs. Clinton’s robust campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination reminded me of my own childhood dream: Become the first female president of the United States of America. Oh yeah.
Though I don’t lament that unfulfilled vision, I do miss the sky-is-the-limit attitude of the girl who dreamt it.
It’s not too late to reconnect with childhood ambitions, though some may require an adult makeover.
Bucket List. Life List. Reaper Roll Call. Name it what you will, but try scribbling down your life’s dreams, no matter how silly.
Once you’ve compiled your goals, you can share them with the world.
Web sites such as Your100Things.com allow dreamers to share their aspirations, and to give and receive encouragement along the road to fulfillment.
Before my stint as commander in chief, I had planned to represent my country in the Olympics, as part of both the gymnastics and track teams. And maybe swimming.
Though I won’t be the next Jackie Joyner-Kersee or Mary Lou Retton, I can honor my inner athlete and train for and compete in an amatuer triathlon. And though I won’t be unseating Bush, I can help campaign for candidates that stand for my values.
Childhood dreams aren’t dead, they’re just hiding.
Whether your goal is to smile every day before getting out of bed, learn to speak Italian or to walk on the Acropolis, I encourage you to share it here. Then have fun living your dreams.
