Martin Sheen interview and the Ten Best Cars for families

.
I’ve always admired Martin Sheen. He’s an excellent actor who’s been turning in great performances on television and in feature films since the early 1960s. He’s been a socially responsible guy (unlike some celebrities), managing to avoid the limelight that too often these days comes from public displays of bad behavior.

He’s also produced two well known sons, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez, and while Charlie has certainly had his share of self-inflicted ups and downs, he seems to have finally settled down. While neither is the caliber performer of their father, both have added to the body cinema in effective ways.

A recent interview with Martin Sheen provides some good background and insight into the famed actor.

TEN BEST CARS FOR FAMILIES

With autos and auto makers much in the news these days because of the impact of rising gas prices, many families are rethinking their choice of vehicles. And if you have a large family, necessitating lots of intra-city trips shlepping your kids here and there, you know as well as anyone how $4.00 per gallon gas prices can add up quickly.

I can’t speak for the actual validity or accuracy of Forbes Magazine’s recent list of the Ten Best Cars for Families. But based on the quality of their past lists, it’s probably worth checking out.

" There is no relationship between the two stories; it was just a "two for the price of one" kind of thing. As always, thanks for your comments. "

" "Slow Day but...": What a day that losing two clowns were more important than the topic. I will miss Bozo(Larry Harmon) but won't miss the political clown. To me, he's been dead for the last two terms plus while supposively in office. Jimmy, I'm not certain what your focus was and how these two topics really intertwine, so could you explain yourself? Thanks! "

" There are two notable deaths to report. One of which really saddens me. Larry Harmon who portrayed Bozo The clown (for half a century!)passed away. The other was Jessie Helms... "

" 18K - 30,000? even a modern so called "middle class" family would struggle to buy the gas for that wagon or suv. You've got to be kidding me jimmy, at $4.00 a gallon!? I thought the libs would want us to all buy the "smart" car. But that's just my biased opinion. "

" I am so sick of seeing Brett Favre's mug. Stay retired. Sorry, Jimmy, to go off topic, but ya gotta admit, not much happenin' today. "

Michael Welch Sheen -- Still Another GREAT American Film Actor... wrote on Jul 3, 2008 11:16 AM:

" Sheen is excellent in so many films: he's 'Dobbs' in Mike Nichols' very personalized but 'appropriate' film of Heller's great now emblematic anti-war novel 'Catch 22; his 'Captain Willard' in 'Apocalypse Now' hasn't a false move and is the perfect narrator and vehicle for the audience's journey to the 'heart of darkness' that was Vietnam. And a role he's given little notice really, as General Robert E. Lee in the Turner Network production of 'Gettysburg' (July 1-3 are the 145th anniversary dates of the pivotal civil war battle), is the best realized depiction of the enigmatic soldier ('His middle name was "audacity"!') I have ever seen... "

" Both Sheens believe 9/11 was an inside job? That is kind of an odd coincidence, isn't it? "

Kudos to the Sheens wrote on Jul 3, 2008 8:48 AM:

" Both Martin and Charlie are 9/11 skeptics. That the article fails to mention such an important dynamic is typical of the mainstream press whose function, after all, is to hide the truth on all matters crucial to the elite who run the country behind a facade of "democracy." "
