The louder Republicans protest, the more they confirm the fact that John McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin was a mistake. And despite a professionally delivered, but highly negative, sarcastic and nasty speech last night, the American people have a right to know everything -- absolutely everything -- about her. The media should not let the McCain forces bully it into holding back on its vetting of Palin or its questioning of her record in the face of the campaign’s faux complaints of sexism and personal privacy.
The Republicans, who it is reported blocked McCain’s attempt to put a pro-choice person on the ticket (so much for the ridiculous “maverick” label), can’t bluster their way out of this one with dubious proclamations about Palin’s record and experience, as a clearly one-drink-too-many Newt Gingrich did during a floor interview with MSNBC’s Ron Allen. One supporter actually asserted that Palin has kept us safe from the Russians, which I assume is a claim based on the simple fact that there has been no invasion of Alaska under her watch. “Obama never had to create or administer a state budget,” Palin defenders say. Well, neither has McCain, or any other politician who’s not been a governor. To hear these folks tell it, Palin’s got more experience than even McCain!
The press should dig deep and dig hard so Americans can find out just who they’re being asked to vote for in Palin. And why does she keep saying, as she did last night, that she was against the bridge to nowhere? It’s the second time she’s made that claim, and the record shows she was a supporter of the infamous pork project. In fact, Alaskan residents receive more money per person in earmarks than any other state in the nation.
The press should not be bullied into backing off on examining Palin’s record, as Time magazine reports tonight the McCain forces have clumsily attempted to suppress. If a hardball vetting was good enough for Obama and Hillary Clinton, it should be good enough for Palin, especially in view of her nasty, highly sarcastic big speech, a speech loaded with derision and condescending personal attacks.
No one on the McCain side should cry foul when Obama, Joe Biden and the Democrats fire back now that Palin has opened the door herself by insulting them so directly.

PROMINENT REPUBLICANS CAUGHT OFF CAMERA DISSING McCAIN’S CHOICE OF PALIN
When someone as ultra conservative as former Ronald Reagan speechwriter and current Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan says that with the selection of Palin the race “is over,” you’ve got to take note. But that’s not all Noonan and former Republican advisor to McCain (and current Time columnist) Mike Murphy had to say. I can’t quote Noonan, but you can hear them for yourself through the link below.
