Voter registration tips

.
Sept. 24, 2008 — The post below is a press release from City Clerk Teri Lehrke:

Are you a new resident of the City of La Crosse? Have you moved or changed your name since you last voted? If so, City Clerk Teri Lehrke recommends you register to vote now.

The La Crosse City Clerk is reminding area residents that Wisconsin has a 20-day deadline for completing voter registration before the November 4 Presidential election.

Before October 15, voters may register in the clerk’s office, by voter registration drive or through the mail. After October 15 and before Election Day, voters may register in the clerk’s office. When registering after the October 15 deadline in the municipal clerk’s office or at the polling place on Election Day, Wisconsinites must provide proof of residence.

Take advantage of the following opportunities to register to vote:

• By mail by October 15= http://www.cityoflacrosse.org/index.asp?NID=103

• City Clerk’s office, 400 La Crosse St.

• Public Library, 800 Main St.

• South Community Library, 1307 16th St. S.

• Door-to-door

• University of Wisconsin-La Crosse

• Viterbo University

• Western Technical College

• Central High School

• Logan High School

• Southside Oktoberfest grounds September 27 from 2-5 p.m.

• Walmart, 4622 Mormon Coulee Rd., October 4 from 12-3 p.m.

• Walmart, 3107 Market Place, Onalaska, October 4 from 12-3 p.m.

New voters must provide their Wisconsin driver’s license number or Wisconsin ID number, and write their name exactly as it is on the license. If they have neither one, they may use the last four digits of their Social Security number.

Voters can check election and voter registration information on the Internet before the November election using the State’s Voter Public Access website at http://elections.state.wi.us under Voter Information. It’s easy to check whether or not you are registered to vote, and where your polling place is. You simply type in your name and date of birth, or your complete address. The Voter Public Access site provides voter registration confirmation and polling place information and lists the officers and officeholders for whom voters at a particular address can vote.

" Of course if you are an illegal immigrant, there is no need to register. You are also entitled to amnesty related to any crimes you commit, free education, and free healthcare. If we didn't offer these things, you see, we would be guilty of racism. "
